What's this all about?
Every person can make music. Yes, you too.
Every person has a musical voice. Really. You too.
Music is a language, a means of expression, that can be understood in terms of melody, harmony, and rhythm.
If you use your voice to speak, you are being melodic.
If you have ever been in a room where people are talking at the same time, you are hearing harmony. If your heart is beating, you know about rhythm.
In this gathering, we will explore the language of music together.
You do not need to know any particular songs.
You do not need to be able to read notated music.
Be willing to leave at the door, for a couple of hours, any beliefs you might be holding that discourage you from indulging in creating music.
All you need is your voice. If you have an instrument to play, please bring it.
Our goal is for you to leave with the recognition that you have a unique musical voice and will be inspired to continue developing and enjoying it.
The workshop will be led by Alison Weiner , the creator and caretaker of mahaloArts. With degrees in architecture (BS), jazz studies (BM) and music composition (MA), Alison is joyfully earning her keep as a musician by teaching, performing, composing, arranging and recording.
